Cameron Smith reached a special record on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, becoming the greatest points scoring forward of all time.

Smith surpassed Roosters legend Craig Fitzgibbon with a conversion in front of the posts to reach yet another milestone in his decorated career.

Speaking after the match, the Melbourne number nine, in his modest style paid tribute to the teams he had been a part of down the years.

"Individual records or accolades are nice to have but that comes on the back of team success and having the players around you,” Smith said.

“I wouldn't have had that success if I hadn't been playing at this great club and obviously having a great coach.”

The Melbourne, Queensland and Australian captain has recorded 1607 points throughout his first-grade career to date.
