Rugby Codes Unite

Melbourne Storm continued their preparations for the World Club Challenge and the 2013 home and away season today, combining with Super Rugby’s Melbourne Rebels in a joint training session.

Speaking to the media following the session at Visy Park, Storm halfback Cooper Cronk said both sets of players valued the chance to combine their training with another code.

“It is actually good to mix both fitness and skills in with another rugby code here in Melbourne,” Cronk said.

“They have obviously got a good group of players who represent the Wallabies and a great coaching staff.

“As professional sportspeople, it’s good to swap stories and train with different skills.”

Both sides will continue their respective preparations for the 2013 season in Geelong in February. Storm face the Canberra Raiders on February 8 at Simonds Stadium in the side’s final game before heading over to England for the World Club Challenge.

“It’s great, we do have a lot of support that come from down there (Geelong),” Cronk said.

“We like to embrace all our supporters here in Melbourne so going down to Geelong and playing the Canberra Raiders is something we are very much looking forward to.”

Storm CEO Ron Gauci said the club was looking forward to taking the Storm brand of rugby league to the people of Geelong and its surrounding regions.

“We know how passionate Geelong people are about their sport and bringing professional rugby league to the local community highlights Storm’s commitment to the growth of the game in Victoria,” Gauci said.
