Storm to host trial match in Geelong
Friday 21 December 2012 11:22 AM
Melbourne Storm has today announced it will play a trial match against Canberra Raiders at Simonds Stadium, Geelong as part of the team’s preparations for the 2013 NRL Telstra Premiership Competition.
In a joint venture with the City of Greater Geelong, the clubs will meet on Friday 8 February 2013 in a twilight game.
The match will be the team’s last hit-out in Australia before heading to the UK for the World Club Challenge to be played on Friday 22 February, forming a major part of Craig Bellamy’s plans to claim the international title.

Storm is likely to field a near full strength side with players competing for spots in the World Club Challenge line-up. Brett Finch will wear the purple jersey for the first time in two years, new recruits Junior Sa’u, Junior Moors and Lagi Setu are set to represent Storm for the first time, while the vast majority of the 2012 premiership team will also take to the field.
Bringing professional rugby league to the Geelong community highlights Storm’s commitment to the growth of the game along the eastern seaboard, after successfully holding a trial match in Hobart at the start of this year.
It will be a weekend of the Rugby codes for the Geelong community with Melbourne Rebels playing their final trial match against the Wellington Hurricanes the following day at the same venue. Melbourne Storm’s game development officers will also conduct a Community Carnival in the region, visiting 12 schools on Wednesday 6 February.
A kick-off time and ticket information will be announced in January.
