Storm celebrate Women in League Round
Thursday 16 May 2013 3:56 PM
Melbourne Storm will celebrate Women in League Round on Monday 20 May against traditional rivals, the Manly Sea Eagles.
The Harvey Norman Women in League Round is a celebration of the role women play in rugby league and also a chance for the game to say thank you to the many women who help build the foundations of the sport.
As two of the competition’s most successful clubs in recent seasons, Melbourne and Manly hold a strong rivalry that always brings out the best in both sides.
Melbourne Storm encourages people to pre-purchase tickets online prior to game day through Ticketek to avoid queues on game day prices.
Since 2007, both sides have met on 14 occasions. Storm hold a slight advantage, winning eight games to the Sea Eagles’ six during that period. Last season, Storm secured a place in the 2012 Grand Final, knocking the Sea Eagles out of the finals race in a Preliminary Final at AAMI Park courtesy of a 40-12 victory.
On Monday night, Melbourne will wear a special Women in League themed jersey for the first time. In recent years, the team has recognised Women in League Round by wearing teal mouth guards.
The themed jersey will include the Ovarian Cancer Australia logo, helping raise awareness of ovarian cancer in the wider community, bringing this vital health message to the forefront.
Melbourne Storm will celebrate and highlight the significant roles played by women at the club as well as throughout rugby league in Victoria.
Game day entertainment will take on a special Women In League focus and include interviews with Ovarian Cancer founding director and patron Nicole Livingstone as well as Melbourne Storm staff. In addition, girls will take part in small-sided rugby league games at half-time.
Also as a part of the Women in League Round, 250 Heaven Ice creams will be given away to the first Melbourne Storm members through the gates on Monday night thanks to Michael O’Brien catering. The ice creams will be available from Aisle 4 and 28 on the day.
Coming off losses in Round 9, both Storm and the Sea Eagles will be eager to return to the winners list on the weekend and consolidate their positions in the NRL top four.
